Using the Instant Online Quote Calculator

Using The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator is a quick, efficient, and convenient tool that will get you an accurate painting quote in no time! The following is a guide on how to properly input variables into The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator.

How it Works!

Our mission at The Painting Hub is to provide our customers with an accurate cost based on how much work is being done. For example, a room with a wall surface area of 400 SF (square feet) should cost less to paint than a room with a wall surface area of 600 SF; a wall that is smooth is quicker to paint than one that is rough… you get the idea! Variables that you input into The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator will provide you with a cost based on the exact quantities inputted into the calculator.

Select the number of rooms for you desired painting project:

The first step to this whole process is determining how many rooms you wish to have painted for your personalized painting project. On The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator, click on the arrow next to the text labeled, Number of Rooms, at the top of the page, and select the desired number of rooms you would like to have painted.

Input the height of each room

Now that you have decided on how many rooms you would like to have painted, the Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator will allow you to select specific variables for each room. The first variable to select is the height of your room. Take a measuring tape and measure from the floor to the ceiling, and record this variable in the box next to the text labeled Height.

What if the walls in my room are of varying height?

Not all rooms are created equal! The architecture of some rooms may include features like vaulted ceilings, slanted ceilings, or tapering walls which will affect the height of each individual wall. For rooms like these, we need to determine what the average height of all the walls to be painted is. If you are a math person, feel free to have some fun and calculate the exact average height of the walls in your room using whatever creative mathematical method you feel is necessary. For everyone else, refer to the diagram below. This will teach you some quick tricks on how to determine the estimated height of your room.

Quote your room’s walls for one colour of paint

If you want the walls of your whole room to be painted one colour, measure the length of each wall in feet and add them together. Input this number into the box next to the text labeled, Length 1.

The next step is to determine what kind of wall it is that we are painting for you. Click the drop down arrow located in the box which has the text Wall Type labeled in it, and select the description which best describes your type of wall.

The coarseness of each wall directly affects the amount of time it will take to paint that particular wall, and our goal at The Painting Hub is to give you the most accurate and fair cost to paint your desired project!

What happens when a wall has doors or windows in it?

Yes, it is true; a wall that has doors or windows in it technically has less surface area to paint, so is this something that The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator accounts for? The truth is that although this particular type of wall does have less surface area, it actually takes a painter longer to paint it. Cutting; the art of painting straight lines around objects like ceilings, doors, and windows, takes longer to complete in comparison to rolling paint on walls. Thus, although there is less surface area to paint, that particular wall in actuality will take longer to finish.

Please measure walls with windows and doors in them in the same fashion you would measure a wall without doors or windows, and input the variables into The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator.

Quote your room to have accent walls

Would you like to add a little more character to your room? Is there a particular wall you wish to draw additional attention to? Having a wall or multiple walls accented with a different colour may be a design decision you wish to make, and The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator can accommodate this for you!

How-To_Accent_Two-Separate

Under the portion on the form labeled Colour 2, input the measured length of the accent wall you wish to paint in the box labeled Length 1. If you wish to have two walls that meet each other painted the same accent colour, add the total length of these walls and input the measurement in the Length 1 box only. If you want the same accent colour on a wall on the opposite side of the room (i.e. a wall that doesn’t share the same edge), or a completely different colour on another wall, input the corresponding length of this wall in the box labeled Length 2.

Quote your room to have doors painted

Want your doors painted? That’s no problem!

The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator accommodates the painting of any door in your home. The first thing you need to do is determine how many of each type of door you want painted. We have broken down doors into two types; basic doors (flat doors, or ones with slight decoration, see images below for examples of each type), and doors with windows (doors that require more intricate brush work, see images below for examples of each type).

doorsIf you wish to have only one side of a door painted, this would count as one door. If you wish to have both sides painted, this would count as two doors. Tally up the number of sides of each type of door you want painted and input these variables into the corresponding boxes in the doors and frames section on The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator   page.

Quote your room to have “doorless” frames painted

Does your room have “doorless” frames that you would like painted? We can do that too!

Start by counting the number of “doorless” frames in your room. Like doors, if you wish to have only one side painted, count this as one. If you want both sides painted, count this as two. Tally up the total number of frames you wish to paint and input this variable into the box next to the text labeled No. Doorless Frames.

Quote your room to have windows painted

The Painting Hub’s instant online quote calculator accommodates the painting of any type of window in your home. We classify windows as either one of two types;  clear windows (windows which don’t have any paintable wood cross pieces built into them, see images below for examples of each type), and decorative  windows (windows which have decorative paintable cross pieces built into them, see images below for examples of each type). Count the number of each type of window and input this variable into the corresponding box next to the text labeled either No. Clear Windows, or No. Decorative Windows.windows

Input the desired number of coats of paint for your project

Each paint project is unique in its own way. Your desired outcome will determine how many paint coats are necessary to properly complete your project, and we are here to guide you through this process!

Most paint applications take two (2) coats to properly coat a surface, especially when changing colours. If you wish to have a surface recoated with the same existing colour, but that particular surface is in bad shape, we recommend going with the two (2) coat option.

One (1) coat applications can be used only when the surface to be painted is in great condition and just needs a refresher coat. This is usually desired when customers are looking to have their rooms “pop” and look brand new, like the first day they were finished.

Three (3) coat applications are sometimes necessary when one of two scenarios arise. The first occurs when a customer decides to make a drastic change in colour compared to the existing colour currently painted on that surface. For example, if you wish to paint a white wall black, or vice versa, this is considered a drastic colour change and will require three (3) paint coats. The same holds true when switching from bright colours to dark ones, and vice versa.  The second scenario is when customers choose bright yellows, bright reds, or even dark reds. These particular colours have less pigment mixed into the paint, which means more coats are required to provide a professional paint finish.
